About Your Surf Fitness Coach

Alan Bisseker ASCC CSCS

Alan is an elite surf fitness coach who works with professional surfers and Olympic athletes. It’s safe to say he knows his stuff.  Accredited by the UKSCA & NSCA, he works with elite and pro athletes across multiple sports including:

  • British Surfing
  • Skateboard GB
  • GB Cycling Team
  • Sheffield United (premiership football team)

Alan also works privately with a number of professional British surfers including Lucy Campbell, Luke Dillon and Logan Nicol.

He’s a proud Devonian and all-round good guy.  The kind of bloke you can trust to tell you what to eat, how to train and the optimum way to prepare a scone (cream first, always!).  But while Alan works with professional athletes, he’s a full-time working dad, exiled in the north of England in Manchester. Which, if you’re rubbish at geography, has absolutely no coastline.

He surfs when he can and is the very definition of a ‘landlocked surfer’ and a ‘weekend warrior’.  So, he totally gets it.

My Story

The idea for Adrenaline Athlete, my surf fitness business, came to me a couple of years ago after a pretty awful surf.

But before we get to that, let’s go back in time.

I grew up surfing.  For all of you not from Britain, I grew up in surfing-mecca, Devon on the south west coast of England.  I learnt from my mates and hit the waves whenever I could.

But then I moved up north to landlocked city of Manchester and just didn’t have the opportunity to access the coast as much.  

I slowly but surely withdrew from surfing. 

But as time went on the coastline was calling to me. And oddly enough, I met a few mates in Manchester who loved surfing too. 

So we started making day trips to North Wales and Yorkshire and started surfing again.

The thing is, after my hiatus from surfing, I got back in the water and lacked the surf-specific fitness you need to have a great surf. 

Surfing is really a release for me.  It’s how I de-stress. 

Not being able to catch waves.  Getting exhausted paddling.  Shoulder burn and a weak pop up.  The list goes on.  Well it’s safe it frustrated me HUGELY.

I decided to do something about it.  I was a man on a mission.

As a professional strength coach, it only made sense for me to come up with a programme for myself.

I created the programme.  And put the work in.  At home I might add.  As it was during lockdown.  With no gyms open, I created a programme that I could easily complete at home.

And lo and behold, it worked. 

After a while, I got stronger.

I started surfing like I used to.  I caught more waves, paddled better and popped up faster. RESULT.

After a bit of research, I realised there is a lot of misinformation online about how you should properly train for surfing. 

So that’s when I decided to start working with professional surfers and train surfers online.

I work 1-on-1 with surfers.

I also launched Strong Surf Club – a monthly membership programme that combines my expert knowledge around strength training and my love of surfing. 

Since that day, it has grown and grown and is now a thriving community of surfers.

Whether I’m heading to Portugal to train pro surfers or working in a gym, it’s safe to say I love my job.  I work with a variety of professional surfers from the GB surfing team, Scottish Surfing Federation as well as Welsh champions.  I have been lucky enough to support athletes at championships around the country and head away to train them at camps.
